Welcome to BYU

Where Knowledge and Faith
Come Together

Hello! I am Carolyn Andrews, and I am privileged to serve as the superintendent of Brigham Young University's Education Service Agency.

At BYU Online High School, we strive to create a flexible, well-rounded, and innovative educational environment. We prioritize transparency so that parents can see what their children are learning. Additionally, we uphold the BYU values to provide a spiritually strengthening, intellectually enlarging, and character-building education. With the tools students gain through their OHS experience, they will be empowered to continue in lifelong learning and service.

I have three degrees from BYU, including a master's in human development and a Ph.D. in psychology and technology. My educational background and interests motivate me to foster a safe and enriching student environment. I have gained invaluable experience as I’ve worked in many positions at BYU, both in administrative and teaching capacities. I look forward to contributing to and learning from the BYU Online High School community.

If you are new, please take your time to explore our website for information on classes, enrollment, and our teaching philosophy. For those revisiting, we hope you have enjoyed your time with us so far and have felt the spirit of the Y.

Thank you,
Carolyn Andrews

A look back at BYU's history

Exploring the past, embracing the future.

The roots of BYU Online High School trace back to Brigham Young Academy, a small private high school founded in 1875 in Provo, Utah in 1875 as a small private high school, Brigham Young Academy, the roots of BYU Online High School trace back to its humble beginnings in Provo, Utah. Under the guidance of its founding principal, Karl G. Maeser, the academy welcomed 29 students who embarked on a journey that would eventually lead to the establishment of Brigham Young University.

In 1904, the academy split into two institutions: Brigham Young High School and Brigham Young University, with the former serving as a “laboratory” school under the College of Education. Brigham Young High School proudly conferred high school diplomas to its final graduating class in 1968. Today, BYU Online High School revives the legacy of high school education at BYU, offering students the opportunity to earn a Brigham Young high school diploma. Building upon a tradition of innovation, BYU Online High School remains steadfast in its commitment to providing educational opportunities that empower students to achieve their academic and personal aspirations.
